Particle-Image-Velocimetry (PIV)
30.05.2005
Particle-Image-Velocimetry (PIV) – Modern measurement instrumentations for fluid analysis

M.TEC engineering GmbH has already successfully made use of the PIV technique for the measurement of fluids in several projects. Particle-Image-Velocimetry (PIV) is a laser optical procedure fort he measurement of a flow field. A pulsed laser is stretched by means of light cut optics to a plane of measurement. The pictures of a special digital camera are evaluated at the measuring computer and the flow rates within the plane are determined.

Since PIV is an optical procedure, the fluid is not disturbed during the measurement. PIV makes the admission of a whole zone of flow and a realtime evaluation possible.

The company M.TEC engineering GmbH makes use of the PIV technique for the analysis and optimisation of fluid behaviour, e.g. in the field of vehicle air conditioning.

Multi.HFM
01.05.2005
Measuring system for the simultaneous acquisition of multiple air mass flows

The newly developed measuring system Multi.HFM is a useful universal device where it is necessary to measure multiple air flows simultaneously. Its setup permits its use in both a mobile unit as well as a test stand.

The device allows the measurement of air mass distribution at all air vents of an air conditioning system. It was developed by M.TEC Engineering/Herzogenrath (near Aachen) and since has found its way not only to their testing facility but is also used by several important manufacturers of car air condition manufacturers. The system permits an exact examination of an air conditioning system either on a test stand or already installed in a vehicle. Additionally it is possible to use it for the following applications (e.g.):

Car climatisation => air mass distribution at all vents
engine technology => Air intake per cylinder
Process technology => Process control
civil engineering => Check of air exchange systems
household appliances => Check of air flow rates

The measuring system consists of a central standard 19” unit, sensors and cables. To achieve perfect accessibility all connectors are situated on the front panel of the central unit. The system comes with hot film mass flow sensors which are suitable for a mass flow of up to 800 kg/hr. The sensors are connected to the central unit by especially manufactured cables. The unit is equipped with a USB port to which a personal computer or laptop has to be connected in order to store and process the acquired data. The data are (a.o.) compatible to DIADEM by National Instruments.

The system is calibrated ready to use. The measuring error is less than 3%. The release of a system with 32 channels is planned for the autumn of 2005.

Balda AG and M.TEC GmbH cooperate within the field of product development
03.03.2004

Balda AG, Bad Oeynhausen develops and produces precision components from high performance plastics. Among the customers are the world´s largest manufacturers of mobile telephones and also companies from the medical and the automotive industry. The Balda technology ranks among the top companies in the world in the market for plastic components. No other producer offers all technologies needed for Infocom business from one hand.

M.TEC GmbH, Herzogenrath/Aachen is a specialist for the development of plastic products. M.TEC´s staff are highly-qualified engineers from mechanical engineering fields of plastic technology, construction and fluid engineering. Together with most modern development methods and high performance CAD/CAE equipment M.TEC offers a comprehensive service from the project management/-controlling up to an approved series production component. Among the customers are companies from the telecommunications/electronics, automotive industry (OEM's and suppliers), domestic appliances, medical technology and others.

Balda and M.TEC together take responsibility for the complete product development at a very early stage. The combination of the core competences of both partners offers the customers an optimization of their development processes. M.TEC is responsible for the mechanical part design. This includes the responsibility for the development of concepts for parts and assembly groups, material selection, the examination and simulation of the part behavior, tolerance analysis as well as the CAD design. The emphasis of Balda is to assure the technical feasibility for the later mass production. Here Baldas key competences such as the tool technology, the injection molding process and the various decoration and assembly operations, like for example welding, gluing, painting and printing are introduced.

For our customers the result of this cooperation can be found in the reduction of the development times as well as in the decreasing of life cycle costs. These advantages are won from the comprehensive communication of all core competences necessary and the clear distribution of responsibilities in the entire development process.

Light simulation
23.02.2004

The field calculation / simulation has grown. The latest shoot is the simulation and interpretation of illumination effects. Since approx. 3 years we work project related on the subject of light conductors and illumination from behind the operation elements. In the beginning this concerned mainly the qualitative design and an experimental verification. In time the light simulation was additionally used as an aid. Since one year we work increasingly in the field of light simulation and the realization of „shining” ideas. One of the results of our work also was exhibited at the IAA – a vehicle door, which was fitted with illumination effects.

Climate control tests on the test stand and on test drives
20.02.2004

Tests on the test stand only deliver meaningful results when the ancillary conditions used therein are significant for the actual use in the car environment. To determine the most suitable setups for detailed tests and to adjust these to match real situations an employee of M.TEC has participated in a test drive from the DaimlerChrysler company. At this test drive, pilot production cars and prototype cars have been tested in specific driving situations. The results of these test are directly incorporated into the ongoing tests at M.TEC.

New product of the co-operation with Siemens Ltd., China
11.02.2004

On Februar 11th Siemens launched the new clamshell phone CF62. The development of the mechanical components is the latest result of the close co-operation between M.TEC and Siemens Ltd., China. M.TEC worked on the concept for the technical core and the housings as well as on the industrial design. Of course M.TEC did the design of some housing parts.

Projects with productive use of the new CATIA version are planned.

New C60 by Siemens mobile with M.TEC cooperation
01.10.2003

The C60 differs to the M55 from technical point of view only slightly. The Triband phone is 110x47x23mm small and with its weight of 85g lightweight and handy. Because of exchangable housings the appearance can be modified for the personal taste. The housings for the original phone and accessories were decisive developed by M.TEC. Time-to-market without reduction of quality goals was the major target for this project. Date of publication for the phone will be the last quarter in 2003.

M.TEC extends experimental techniques by acoustics
15.05.2003

Due to various inquiries M.TEC has broadened the spectrum of the test and trial sector by the field of noise analysis. From now on it is possible to identify and analyse disturbing noise sources e.g. of vehicle components or consumer goods with the help of innovative binaural recording equipment in order to establish a basis to eliminate these malfunctions already in construction. Our aim is to identify and eliminate the cause of a noise, instead of just confining ourselves to mask the noise. M.TEC is using a system manufactured by HEAD Acoustics which enables us to perform various standard analysis (e.g. FFT and order analysis, etc.), but also to display psycho-acoustic values like loudness and sharpness. The recorded data can be saved as DAT, WAV or MP3 files. The technology has already been used before in the field of vehicle air conditioning systems.

M.TEC launches co-operation with Siemens Ltd. China
20.01.2003

After a long-standing co-operation with Siemens Mobiles in Germany, M.TEC now launches co-operation with another expanding Siemens site: Siemens Ltd. China located in Beijing. In close collaboration with several Siemens divisions M.TEC has just completed the development of a cover for a new mobile phone, which is mainly designed for the Asian market. Especially M.TEC’s proven experience in development and manufacturing techniques in the field of mobile phones and accessories was in demand. The product will be offered world-wide in high quantities as of the second quarter 2003.
